Dulu, ada seorang ustaz yang mengajar di sebuah pondok pesantren. Ia mengajarkan berbagai macam ilmu agama Islam, seperti ilmu Al-quran, tauhid, fiqih, nahwu, dan sharaf.
Ketika sang ustad ingin mengujiankan murid-muridnya dalam berbagai mata pelajaran, ustaz itu berkata kepada murid-murid, “Wahai murid-murid sebelum kita melaksanakan ujian, kita akan mengadakan jamuan makan, setiap kalian harus menyembelih seekor ayam, apakah kalian siap?”
Para murid menjawab, “Tentu wahai ustaz!”.
Kemudian ustaz memberi sebuah syarat yang harus dipenuhi ketika menyembelih ayam, “Sembelihan ada syaratnya, syaratnya adalah ketika kalian menyembelih ayam kalian jangan ada satupun yang melihat kalian, paham?”. Tanya sang ustaz.
Setelah itu semua murid pergi dan mulai menyembelih ayam mereka, sebagian dari mereka ada yang menyembelih di dalam ruangan, ada yang di kebun, ada juga yang menyembelih di tanah lapang, dan sebagainya.
Tapi ada satu orang murid yang belum menyembelih ayamnya, dia mondar-mandir , dia tidak tahu apa yang harus dia lakukan dan bagaimana.
Dia masuk ke dalam rumah, tapi juga tidak menyembelih ayamnya disana. Dia juga pergi ke tempat gembala dan ke sungai tapi dia tetap tidak mampu melakukannya.
Waktu terus berjalan, para murid kembali kepada ustaz mereka dengan membawa ayam-ayam mereka yang sudah disembelih. Kecuali satu orang murid, dia membawa ayamnya yang masih hidup.
Teman-temanya heran, dan melihat kepadanya dengan pandangan remeh. Ustaz bertanya kepadanya, “Kenapa kamu belum menyembelih ayammu? Sungguh kamu telah melanggar perintahku”.
“Maafkan saya ustaz, bukannya aku tidak mau melakukannya, tapi aku tidak menemukan satu tempat pun yang tidak terlihat ketika aku menyembelih”. Jawab murid tersebut.
Ustaz bertanya, “Memangnya di semua tempat ada yang melihat, siapa yang melihatmu?”
“Sesungguhnya Allah melihatku, Dia adalah Tuhan yang Maha melihat dan Maha mengetahui”, Jawab si murid yang jenius itu.
Sang ustaz pun tersenyum sambil berkata, “Engkau benar wahai anakku!”.
Dari sekian banyak murid hanya satu orang yang telah lulus ujian bahkan sebelum ujian dilaksanakan.
